CRA EFILE Error 140: Software Not Authorized for EFILE Submission

Learn how to fix CRA EFILE Error Code 140 by adding CloudTax as an authorized software provider to your CRA EFILE account and successfully submitting T1 tax returns.

Written by Arani Tharmalingam

If you receive CRA EFILE Error Code 140 when submitting a T1 tax return through CloudTax EFILE, it means the CRA cannot process your return due to a software certification or authorization issue.

Why Am I Getting Error Code 140?

According to the CRA, this error occurs for one of two reasons:

  1. Software not certified: The tax software used to prepare the return is not certified by the CRA for EFILE.

  2. Software not associated with your EFILE account: The software used to transmit the return is not listed on your CRA EFILE account.

If you're using CloudTax EFILE for a supported tax year, the issue may be that CloudTax has not been added to your CRA EFILE account as an authorized software provider.

How to Fix Error Code 140

To resolve this error:

  1. Sign in to your CRA EFILE account.

  2. Review the software providers associated with your account.

  3. If CloudTax is not listed, contact the CRA EFILE Helpdesk and request that CloudTax be added to your account.

  4. Once CRA confirms the software has been associated with your account, return to CloudTax EFILE.

  5. Resubmit your T1 tax return.

Can I Resubmit My Return?

Yes. Once CloudTax has been successfully associated with your CRA EFILE account, you should be able to resubmit your return, provided there are no other filing errors.
