Apply for a SIN

Online Application:

  • Gather and digitize all required documents, such as:

    • Birth certificate (if born in Canada)

    • Permanent Resident card or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (if not born in Canada)

  • Submit your application through the Service Canada SIN Application Portal

  • Service Canada will process your application and mail a response

Urgent Requests:

  • If you need your SIN urgently, visit a Service Canada Centre in person with your documents

Find Your SIN

If you’ve already been issued a SIN but don’t remember it:

  • Look for your SIN confirmation letter

  • Check your previous tax documents, such as your Notice of Assessment or T4 slip, where your SIN is usually listed

  • Contact Service Canada for assistance. You’ll need to verify your identity by providing:

    • Full name

    • Date of birth

    • Address

    • A piece of government-issued ID

Protect Your SIN

Your SIN is highly sensitive information. Keep it secure and only share it with authorized parties, such as your employer, financial institutions, or when filing taxes.
