Personal Income Tax Returns

  • File and pay any taxes owed by April 30th or the next business day if April 30 is a weekend or holiday

Self-Employed Individuals

  • If you or your spouse/common-law partner are self-employed, you have until June 15th to file your return

  • Any taxes owed must still be paid by April 30th (or the next business day) to avoid interest charges

    • If you overpay your taxes, any difference will be refunded to you once your return is processed

    • If you underpay, penalties and interest will apply to the unpaid balance starting the day after the deadline

Late Filing Consequences

Penalties

  • A late-filing penalty applies if you owe taxes and file your return after the personal income tax deadline

Interest Charges

  • Interest is charged on any unpaid tax amounts starting the day after the personal income tax deadline, even if you’re self-employed
