How Do I Claim the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) on My Taxes?

If you’ve been approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), you can claim it on your tax return to reduce the amount of income tax you owe.

Steps to Claim the DTC on Your Taxes

  • Verify Your Eligibility

    • Ensure that your Disability Tax Credit Certificate (Form T2201) has been approved by the CRA

  • Using CloudTax

    • Sign in to your CloudTax account and access your current tax return

    • Go to "Personal Info" in the top navigation bar

    • Scroll down to “Other Questions"

    • Select “Yes” for the question "Are you eligible to claim the disability tax credit?

    • Confirm you have an approved T2201 form

    • Click Next to ensure the DTC is included in your return

Important Notes

  • You can claim the DTC retroactively for up to 10 years if your eligibility includes prior years

  • Claiming the DTC may also make you eligible for additional benefits, such as the Canada Workers Benefit or the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)
