What is the NETFILE Access Code?

The NETFILE Access Code (NAC) is a unique 8-character code assigned by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that helps verify your identity when filing your tax return electronically using NETFILE-certified software like CloudTax.

Do I Need to Use the NETFILE Access Code?

  • While the NAC is not mandatory to file your return, entering it provides an additional layer of security

  • If you choose not to use it, your return will still be processed, but the CRA may take extra steps to confirm your identity and ask for information on your previous year's tax return.

Where Can I Find My NETFILE Access Code?

  • On Your Notice of Assessment (NOA):

    • The code is printed on the right-hand side of your most recent NOA from the CRA

    • Look for the section labeled “Access Code”

What If I Don’t Have My Access Code?

  • You can still file your return without the NAC

  • If you’ve misplaced your NOA, log in to your CRA My Account to retrieve the NAC or request a copy of your NOA

Why This Matters

Using the NETFILE Access Code ensures your identity is verified, reduces delays, and enhances the security of your electronic filing.
