What Information is Shared?

The CRA shares the following information:

  • Name

  • Address

  • Date of Birth

  • Citizenship Information

Why Does Elections Canada Need This Information?

  • This helps Elections Canada create and update voter lists used during elections

  • Ensure Accurate Voter Registration and reduce the likelihood of errors or duplication on voter lists

  • If you are not already registered, your information will be used to add you to the voter register

What Happens After the Information is Shared?

  • If Elections Canada adds you to the register or updates your information, You May Receive a Voter Registration Letter

  • Elections Canada manages and uses your information for electoral purposes

Do I Have to Agree?

No, sharing your information with Elections Canada is optional. When filing your tax return, you can choose whether to allow the CRA to share your details by answering Yes or No to the question on your return
