Encountering NETFILE or CRA errors can be frustrating. This guide explains common errors, their causes, and solutions to resolve them.

Common Error Codes and Solutions

1. Error 131 – Account Locked

  • Cause: CRA account locked

  • Solution: Contact the CRA Helpdesk to unlock your account. If CRA suggests it’s a software issue, persist until the issue is resolved

2. Error 370 – CPP/QPP Contributions Mismatch

  • Cause: Missing T4 slips related to CPP/QPP contributions

  • Solution: Verify all T4 slips and ensure contributions match CRA records

3. Error 2197 – Exceeding RRSP Deduction Limits

  • Cause: RRSP claims exceed the allowable contribution room

  • Solution: Confirm unused RRSP amounts with your NOA or CRA My Account and contact CRA if adjustments are needed

4. Error 2252 – HBP Repayment Below Minimum

  • Cause: Home Buyers’ Plan (HBP) repayment does not meet the required minimum

  • Solution: Verify repayment amounts on CRA records and adjust line 12900 if necessary

5. Error 70127 – Missing T2017 for Capital Gains Deductions

  • Cause: Capital gains deductions from prior years affecting current filings

  • Solution: Complete and include a T2017 form based on previous years’ filings

6. Error 70412 – Exceeding Investment Tax Credit Allowance

  • Cause: Credits exceed carryforward limits on Form T2038

  • Solution: Verify and adjust amounts in Part F of Form T2038

7. Error 70450 – Missing T4 Slips for CPP Contributions

  • Cause: CPP contributions claimed without corresponding income

  • Solution: Include all T4 slips and confirm accuracy with CRA records

8. Error 90113 – Old Age Security (OAS) Pension Issue

  • Cause: Missing or incorrect OAS entries for those over 65

  • Solution: Include T4A(OAS) slips if applicable or correct entries on line 11300 and 9917

9. Error 92124 – Ineligible CPP Overpayment Claim

  • Cause: Filing is more than four years late

  • Solution: Adjust CPP claims to reduce line 44800 to zero. (Usually found in T4 box 16)

10. Error 99917 – Incorrect OAS Pension Information

  • Cause: Missing or incorrect T4A(OAS) slips

  • Solution: Verify and include all relevant slips

11. Auto-Fill ERR.029 – Session Timeout

  • Cause: CRA session timed out during Auto-Fill

  • Solution: Log into CRA in your default browser and retry the Auto-Fill process

12. ReFILE Error 503 – No Change Detected

  • Cause: ReFILE submission does not include meaningful changes

  • Solution: Submit a paper adjustment if no changes are processed electronically

13. Auto-Fill ERR.021 – Forbidden Error

  • Cause: Authorization issues or account misconfiguration

  • Solution: Contact CRA Helpdesk to verify account settings

14. Error 43 – Name and SIN Mismatch

  • Cause: Taxpayer name or SIN does not match CRA records

  • Solution: Confirm details with CRA and indicate name changes, if applicable

15. Error 521 – Incorrect EFILE Credentials

  • Cause: Outdated or incorrect EFILE number or password

  • Solution: Update credentials for the current tax year and retry submission

16. Authentication Errors (T830, T857, T859)

  • Cause: Incorrect credentials or missing authorization

  • Solution: Verify details or have the client authorize access through CRA

17. Business Consent Error – Invalid EFILE ID/Password

  • Cause: EFILE account not certified for the current year

  • Solution: Complete certification for the year before retrying
