While the system automatically generates and signs the authorization form when a client first signs up, there may be instances where changes are made to the return, requiring a resigned authorization form. In this post, we’ll walk you through the process of downloading and resending the form when necessary.

Step-by-Step Guide to Downloading the Authorization Form

  1. Log in to the E-Filer Dashboard

    • Access your CloudTax EFILE account and navigate to the main dashboard.

TIP: If you need to make any changes, please do so before moving on to the next steps to ensure they're reflected properly. Always remember to click NEXT on each page to save your progress.

  2. Locate the Tax Return

    • Click on the “Returns” section to view a list of all your tax returns.

    • Select the return in question—this will open a side panel with more details.

  3. Download the Authorization Form

    • On the right-hand side panel, click on the three dots beside Auth Rep

    • Click Download to save the PDF to your device

  4. Resend manually (ie. via email)

    • Download the updated PDF and email it to your client for an e-signature

Why This Step is Important

CloudTax's system ensures that the initial authorization form is automatically signed when a client signs up. However, if changes are made on your end, the client must reauthorize those updates. This process ensures compliance with the CRA and maintains accuracy in tax filing.

If you ever need to manually resend the authorization form, just follow the steps above to download and email or mail it to your client for a signature.

Additional Common Questions:

  • The client's name was entered incorrectly: The "Personal Information" page contains the transmitted data. To correct the client’s name, go to the "Personal Info" page and save the updated details. However, once the client profile name is created, it cannot be edited directly.

  • Why does the Authorization fail? The CRA allows Authorization only if all information matches their SIN registry. You may contact the CRA EFILE Help Desk for assistance, but success may depend on the specific agent you speak with.

  • Is Authorization required to file taxes? No. You only need a signature on the T183 form—either on paper or through e-signature.

  • First-time filing—can I gain access? If this is your client’s first filing, there will be no carry-forward amounts. Access can be obtained after e-filing their return.

Future Update: We will automate the re-sending of Authorization Representatives in an upcoming update. We appreciate your patience and support.
