If your spouse or common-law partner was a non-resident of Canada during the tax year, it’s important to correctly report their income when filing your taxes. CloudTax makes this easy—but there are a few key spots where you’ll need to enter this information depending on your situation.

Here’s how to do it:

Scenario 1: You are a newcomer to Canada in 2024

Under the "My Residence" section in Personal Info, you’ll be asked: “Have you moved in or out of the country in 2024?”

If yes, you'll need to:

  • Enter your Date of Entry into Canada

  • Fill in your Canadian sourced non-resident income

  • Fill in your Foreign sourced non-resident income

Then, go to the "Spouse Information" section and answer: “Was your spouse or common-law partner a non-resident in 2024?” → Select Yes

This will prompt you to enter:

  • Their income while you were a resident of Canada

  • Their income while you were not a resident of Canada

Scenario 2: You are NOT a newcomer, but your spouse is a non-resident

In this case, you can skip the “My Residence” section entirely—you do not need to enter a date of entry or non-resident income for yourself.

Instead:

  1. Go to "Spouse or Common-law Partner" under Personal Info

  2. Answer "Yes" to: “Did your spouse have an income in 2024?”

  3. Enter their income amount as prompted.
