Steps to Claim Spouse or Partner Credits in CloudTax

  • Select "Yes" to Filing Together when starting a return. This ensures credits are applied automatically, and individual returns are filed accurately with the CRA.

  • After answering your personal questions, the "Spouse Information" section will appear.

  • Provide their:

    • Full name

    • Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • Answer additional questions based on your responses

  • Select "Next" to save your updates.

  • Note: If filing separately and your spouse had income, CloudTax will generate the appropriate form to include in your return.

Need to Get Back to the Spouse Questionnaire?

  • Select “Personal Info” in the navigation bar on the top.

  • Find the "Spouse Information" section in the left navigation panel.

Important Notes

  • Ensure your marital status is updated in the "Taxpayer Information" section as of December 31 of the tax year.

  • If your marital status changed during the tax year, you may still be eligible to claim shared credits for the part of the year you were together.

  • You must have consent from your (former) spouse or partner to claim transferable credits.

Why This Matters

Claiming credits from your (former) spouse or common-law partner can:

  • Reduce your tax liability

  • Maximize your deductions

  • Ensure accurate benefits and credits allocation
