At CloudTax, we know hearing from the CRA can feel stressful, even when you’ve filed correctly. That’s why we offer Audit Protection, designed to give you expert guidance and support if the CRA ever reviews your return.
Here’s everything you need to know about how Audit Protection works, what it covers, and what it does not cover.
What Is Audit Protection?
Add Audit Protection for just $29 per return and get expert support if the CRA reviews your tax filing.
With Audit Protection, our team helps you understand CRA requests, guides you on what documents may be needed, and assists you in preparing a clear response.
CRA Review Support
If the CRA asks questions about your return, our tax experts step in to guide you through the process.
Document & Response Help
We help you prepare supporting documents and draft clear responses for the CRA.
Peace of Mind All Year
No scrambling. No guessing. No unnecessary stress.
Even if you never use it, many clients appreciate the reassurance of knowing they have support available if needed.
Important: Clients Must Inform Us
If the CRA contacts you regarding a review, audit, reassessment, or request for information, CloudTax will not automatically know.
Clients are responsible for notifying our support team as soon as possible if they have purchased Audit Protection and receive communication from the CRA.
To begin support, please provide:
Your CloudTax Account PIN
A copy of your Notice of Assessment (NOA)
Any CRA letters or requests received
Response Time Expectations
Our team requires a minimum of 7 business days to review audit inquiries, CRA letters, and supporting documentation.
Clients are responsible for:
Monitoring CRA deadlines
Following up directly with the CRA when required
Providing requested documents on time
Sending CloudTax all relevant information promptly
Delays in submitting documentation or notifying our team may impact the ability to respond before CRA deadlines.
What Audit Protection Does Not Cover
Audit Protection is a support service, not an insurance policy or guarantee against CRA reassessments.
Clients remain fully responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information entered into CloudTax or provided during filing services.
Since users supply their own tax information, CloudTax cannot accept liability for:
Missing slips
Undisclosed income
Incorrect information entered by the client
Incomplete documentation
Information not shared during appointments or filing
Our role is to help clients:
Understand CRA requests
Navigate discrepancies
Prepare supporting responses and documents
Understand possible next steps and resolutions
Think of it as having an experienced team helping guide you through the CRA process.
Important Examples to Understand
Self Filing Clients
If a client forgets to include a slip, expense, or income source while filing themselves, CloudTax is not responsible for the omission.
However, if the CRA later reviews the return, Audit Protection provides expert guidance and support throughout the process.
Review & File Clients
For clients using Review & File services, our experts can only review the information and documents provided during the appointment.
For example, if a client forgets to disclose a tax slip or source of income, there may be no way for our team to identify the missing information during the review.
In these situations:
CloudTax is not liable for undisclosed or missing information
We will still support the client through the CRA review process as outlined under Audit Protection
Done For You Clients
The same principle applies to Done For You services. If information is missing from CRA records and the client does not disclose it to our team, CloudTax cannot be held responsible for omissions that were not available or communicated at the time of filing. However, our team will still assist and guide clients through the CRA review process under Audit Protection support.
Legacy Audit Protection Pricing
Some long time CloudTax clients may still see an older Audit Protection subscription price of $15.99 per year.
This was part of our legacy Audit Protection offering and is no longer available to new clients.
Our current Audit Protection pricing is: $29 per return
Why Am I Seeing the Audit Protection Pop Up Again?
Some clients notice the Audit Protection option appearing during filing even after purchasing coverage.
This usually happens because CloudTax allows users to file multiple tax profiles under one account.
Audit Protection is purchased per return, meaning:
Multiple users or profiles may each require their own coverage
Clients can choose to purchase Audit Protection for additional profiles filed under the same account
For example, if you file for yourself, a spouse, or family members, each return can have its own Audit Protection coverage.
CloudTax Plus Members
CloudTax Plus already includes Audit Protection for the primary user only.
If additional profiles are being filed under the same account, separate Audit Protection may still be required for those additional returns if coverage is desired.
Do Review & File or Done For You Clients Need Audit Protection?
In most cases, clients using Review & File or Done For You services do not need to purchase additional Audit Protection for their own return, since support is already included as part of those services.
However, clients may still choose to purchase Audit Protection if:
They are filing additional profiles under their account
They want additional support coverage for those extra returns
Final Thoughts
CRA reviews can happen for many reasons and are often routine. Audit Protection helps remove uncertainty by giving you access to expert guidance when you need it most.
Our goal is simple:
To help clients confidently understand, respond to, and navigate CRA reviews with professional support every step of the way.
