If your child is attending post-secondary school and you’d like to claim their T2202 (tuition tax receipt) on your tax return, CloudTax makes it simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

Step 1: Add Your Child as a Dependent on Your Tax Return

The first thing you need to do is add your child as a dependent to your tax profile. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to CloudTax: Go to the top-right corner of your screen where your name is displayed.

  2. Click on My Profile (If you're using the EFILE software, it will be labeled as Client’s Profile).

  3. When prompted, answer YES to the question asking if you have a dependent.

  4. Click Next to save this information.

Step 2: Complete the Dependent Information Page

Once your child is added as a dependent, you’ll need to fill out some additional details on the dependent page. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. On the Dependent Page, ensure the Relationship dropdown is set to Child.

  2. Answer YES to the question: Is the dependent a post-secondary student?

  3. Enter the Federal Tuition Amount Transferred (this is the amount your child is transferring to you from their T2202 form).

  4. Click Next to proceed.

Step 3: Create a Separate Profile for Your Child

Since your child will be filing their own tax return, it’s necessary to create a new profile in CloudTax for them. To do this:

  1. Start a new profile for your child within CloudTax.

  2. Fill out the T2202 page with the information provided on your child’s tuition receipt.
