If you and your spouse file taxes together using CloudTax, you might occasionally run into a message saying your return can’t be submitted — even though you’ve completed everything. Don’t worry, this usually happens because your return is “joined” with your partner’s return.
When two returns are joined, CloudTax automatically links them for a smoother experience — shared data, faster entry, and fewer errors. But when it’s time to file, both returns must pass the CRA’s validation and be submitted together. If one partner’s return is ready and the other’s isn’t, the system prevents submission to keep everything in sync.
Here are two easy ways to resolve this:
Option 1: File Through Your Partner’s Profile
If your spouse has already completed their return, log in to your partner’s CloudTax account, run the Error Check on their return, and then switch back to yours.
Once your partner’s return has been successfully checked, you’ll be able to submit your own without any issues.
Option 2: Unjoin the Returns
If you prefer to file separately, CloudTax Support can “unjoin” both returns.
Here’s what to do:
Sign in to your CloudTax account.
Click your name in the top-right corner of the screen.
Locate your Account PIN (a short code that identifies your account).
Send the PIN for both partners to our support team at [email protected].
Once we receive both PINs, we’ll unjoin the returns so each of you can file independently.
Even if your returns are joined, the CRA still requires separate submissions for each partner — meaning both returns must be validated before they can be accepted.
If you’re still stuck or unsure which option is right for you, our support team is happy to help you get things filed smoothly.
